The plant forms a vigorous, spreading leaf rosette up to 40 cm in height. The leaves are dark green, elongated, with a highly serrated edge resembling dandelion leaves. A characteristic feature is the distinct dark red central veins and stems.
The variety is intended for fresh consumption in salads or as an ingredient in cooked dishes. The crop can be harvested either as whole rosettes or as individual leaves as they regrow. The plant does not require forcing, but is prone to premature bolting if sown too early.
