Variety description

10 August 2026

The plant forms heads with a diameter of about 15 cm. The leaves have a serrated or wavy shape and variegated coloring: a creamy-white background with red-violet spots. The variety was obtained by crossing red chicory and escarole.

Cultivation requires fertile, well-drained soils and well-lit areas. Sowing dates fall in the period from June to August. The variety possesses resistance to light autumn frosts. A blanching (forcing) method is traditionally used to obtain a more tender texture and the characteristic leaf coloration.

The taste of the plant is characterized as delicate and less pronounced in bitterness than that of other types of red radicchio. The variety is used fresh for salads, as well as in culinary processing—when preparing risotto, soups, or grilled dishes.
