The Solkanski variety is also known as Solkanski regut and belongs to the leaf chicory group. It is a historically established local variety from the Goriška region, similar in its characteristics to the Italian radicchio of the Rosa di Gorizia type.

The plant forms dense rosettes that resemble a flower in shape. The variety is late-maturing and possesses high resistance to drought and cold. Flavor qualities are characterized by the absence of bitterness when fully mature.

Solkanski chicory is intended for fresh consumption. The variety is suitable for the forcing process during the autumn-winter period, during which plants are grown on under special conditions to obtain tender blanched produce.
