The variety is late-maturing: the period from transplanting to harvest is 125–130 days for the classic version and 130–140 days for the Red Moon selection. The plant forms compact heads with an average weight of 350 g.

The appearance of the leaves is characterized by the presence of red-purple veins, which appear during ripening. The Red Moon selection differs from the classic variety by increased compactness and uniformity of the heads, as well as the ability to withstand low winter temperatures.

The variety is intended for professional vegetable farming and fresh market sales. It should be distinguished from traditional Italico a Costa Rossa leaf populations, which do not form heads.
