The Clio variety is an F1 hybrid belonging to the group of leaf chicories known as dandelion chicory. The plant is erect, vigorous, with the serrated leaves and large white petioles characteristic of this type.

The variety is early maturing, with readiness for harvest occurring 48–60 days after transplanting. The plant possesses resistance to bolting during regrowth, which allows for multiple cuttings. It exhibits some cold tolerance, however, susceptibility to Fusarium wilt has been noted.

The purpose of the variety is for use as a salad crop. The leaves and flower stalks are consumed both fresh and after heat treatment.
