The Flexine variety is an F1 hybrid belonging to the Cichorium intybus variety used for witloof production. The plant is classified as a very late type, demanding in terms of nitrogen nutrition.

In agronomic and scientific practice, the variety is used as a source of roots for the forcing process. After forcing, the roots are a subject of research as a by-product characterized by a high content of chlorogenic acid and inulin.
