The name Apirena is used as a collective term to designate seedless watermelons. Therefore, the exact morphological parameters, maturity group, and origin are individual for each specific hybrid included in this group.

Fruits of this group are valued for ease of consumption, high sugar content, and good organoleptic properties. The flesh can be red or yellow, and the rind color is most often light green with dark stripes.

Cultivation requires special techniques, including the use of pollinator plants due to the sterility of triploid pollen. Protected cultivation and grafting onto rootstocks are often employed to increase resistance to soil-borne pathogens, such as Fusarium oxysporum.
