The variety is a bitter orange seedling possessing traits typical for its species. The plant is characterized as an evergreen tree showing high resistance to adverse conditions and the citrus tristeza virus. However, the variety is incompatible with scions sensitive to this virus due to the risk of necrosis at the graft union.

In the Mediterranean, Maroc SG is widely used as a rootstock for other citrus fruits. Beyond commercial use, the tree is grown as an ornamental due to its evergreen foliage and fragrant flowering. Genetically, the variety demonstrates extremely low diversity, characteristic of most bitter oranges.
