The fruit flesh is whitish-green, juicy and sweet, possessing a mild taste. The variety is valued for its capacity for long-term storage, which exceeds three months after harvest. There are references to hybrid forms possessing additional resistance to powdery mildew, melon aphids and root diseases.
The variety has a number of synonyms, such as Tendral verde, Napoletano verde tardivo and Vert olive d'hiver, and is traditionally classified as a "winter" melon. It is intended primarily for consumption in the autumn-winter period.
