The Erwistawei variety is the result of a breeding program aimed at overcoming interspecific incompatibility using in vitro methods, including embryo rescue techniques. The hybrid combines characteristics of C. persicum and C. purpurascens, in particular, inheriting the fragrance characteristic of the latter species.
Plants of this breeding group possess signs of hybrid vigor; however, breeding work in this direction often encountered the problem of sterility in the obtained hybrids and difficulties in their subsequent propagation, which led to a limitation of their life cycle on the market.
