Saborto is a tetraploid variety derived from diploid parent forms using Portuguese genetic material. The plant is characterized by a tendency towards early inflorescence formation in the absence of vernalization and has a lower tillering density compared to some other varieties.
The variety demonstrates relatively low winter hardiness and resistance to rust diseases. In terms of productivity under cold climate conditions, the variety is inferior to adapted species, however, it shows satisfactory results in the autumn period. It is used in grass mixtures for pasture and haymaking purposes, including in agroforestry systems.
