Variety description

The plant forms an upright bush 40 to 90 cm tall. The foliage is semi-evergreen; basal leaves have a heart shape with prickly margins. The cylindrical inflorescences are surrounded by prickly bracts and possess a metallic blue or violet-blue shade.
The variety is sterile and does not form viable seeds. It prefers sunny areas with well-drained, moderately fertile soils. With excessive moisture or lack of light, the stems may lodge. It possesses winter hardiness in USDA zones 5–9.
Flowering occurs from the beginning to the end of summer. The plant is a honey plant that attracts pollinating insects. The inflorescences are suitable for use as cut flowers and dried flowers, as they retain their shape and color for a long time.
