The variety is a vegetable fennel grown for the production of edible organs in the form of thickened leaf bases or bulbs. It is registered in the official European Union vegetable variety catalogs as a variety of Foeniculum vulgare Mill.

In comparative phytopathological trials, the variety demonstrated lower susceptibility to the pathogen Ochraceocephala foeniculi, which causes root neck rot, compared to a number of other varieties.
