The name Spangsbjerg refers to the Danish research station where trials of various agricultural crops were carried out. In genetic resource databases, hybrid forms and breeding lines obtained using the varieties Deutsch Evern, Späte von Leopoldshall, and Culver are registered under this designation.
In publications regarding the results of breeding trials from the mid-20th century, Spangsbjerg appears as a research location, not as an independent, widely distributed variety. The name is mistakenly taken for a variety or confused with the Italian variety Spargi, as well as with a rhubarb variety of the same name.
