The C45 seedling first fruited in 1973 at the University of California research station. In 1979, it received the official name Pajaro and was patented.

The Pajaro variety belongs to the short-day group. The fruits are characterized by high firmness and a symmetrical shape, predominantly medium or long conical; primary berries are often wedge-shaped.

The variety demonstrated high yields in the Watsonville area; however, productivity decreased with winter planting in other conditions. In modern nursery catalogs, the C45 label more often indicates the volume of the container in which the plant is sold.
