The Capitola variety was bred as a result of crossing lines CA75.121-101 and Parker. In the morphological description, it is noted that the plant forms large fruits characterized by low sugar content and high acidity.

The main significance of the variety lies in its use as a parental form for gene mapping and studying disease resistance traits. Specifically, the variety possesses high resistance to the fungus Colletotrichum acutatum, which causes anthracnose, due to the presence of the RCA2 locus.
