The variety was introduced in 1995 and was created within the framework of a breeding program for plant adaptation to the climatic conditions of the Huelva region in Spain. It did not gain widespread adoption in commercial production.

In scientific studies, the variety is mentioned in the context of assessing the content of volatile aromatic compounds, where it is included in the group with values of 1500–1000 µg/g. Comparative descriptions indicate that the fruits of the 'Plahuelfre' variety exceed those of 'Cartuno' in size and firmness.
