The Ekaterina variety is of Bulgarian selection and is used in ornamental floriculture. In scientific literature, it is often considered in conjunction with another Bulgarian variety, Iva, when evaluating agrobiological indicators.

Research on the variety focuses on studying the physiological reactions of plants to growing conditions. Experiments were conducted on the influence of different irrigation regimes on water metabolism, growth, development, and the overall physiological state of gladioli in greenhouses.
