Gladiolus Ellis belongs to the group of large-flowered varieties. The flowers have an intense red or dark red color, sometimes with a contrasting light spot in the center of the lower petals. The height of the flower stalk is from 100 to 120 cm, and the diameter of a single flower varies from 10 to 15 cm. From 15 to 20 buds are formed on each stem.
The variety is intended for cultivation in borders, flower beds, and for cut flowers. Flowering occurs in July–September. The plant is thermophilic and requires annual digging up of the corms for the winter period. Cultivation requires sunny, wind-protected areas with fertile, well-drained soil.
