The variety belongs to the species Gossypium hirsutum L. In official test guidelines, it is often used as a reference variety for the morphological description of traits, in particular, for the characterization of the stigma positioned at the same level as the anthers.

This cotton variety has been repeatedly used as an object in scientific studies dedicated to the study of the pathogenicity of the fungus Verticillium dahliae, which causes Verticillium wilt. Like other Upland varieties, it is intended for fiber production for the textile industry.
