The cotton variety IPK Nelina was obtained in Bulgaria as a result of breeding work crossing the Bulgarian variety Perla-267 and the Romanian line T-073. During state variety trials, it demonstrated raw cotton yields at the level of the standards.

A distinctive feature of the variety is a high fiber yield. In this indicator, IPK Nelina surpassed the standards Chirpan-539 by 2.6% and Avangard-264 by 8.8%.

The name Neli in scientific literature on cotton most often refers to the name of the researcher Neli Valkova or is an erroneous or abbreviated mention of the variety IPK Nelina in lists of genotypes.
