The ST580 variety is a mid-season cotton obtained by modified pedigree selection. During the breeding process, trials were conducted in various regions of the USA, the results of which showed that the variety superior in fiber yield to a number of common commercial counterparts.
Fiber quality studies of the ST580 variety demonstrated statistically significantly higher values of length and strength compared to competitive varieties of that period. The variety was intended for widespread commercial cultivation in the regions of the US Cotton Belt.
The variety is listed in the national registry — its seeds are authorized for sale in this country.
