The variety was selected from Acala-type cotton and previously carried the designation GSA-254, where the abbreviation stands for Growers Seed Association. Based on morphological characteristics, the plant is identified by an intermediate growth type.

The variety is classified as long-staple upland cotton. During the second half of the 20th century, it was actively used in the regions of New Mexico and Texas and was frequently mentioned in historical records of cotton variety pedigrees.

Over time, the variety ceased to meet the updated standards for yield and fiber quality adopted in subsequent breeding programs.
