The plant forms a rosette of leathery, sword-shaped leaves with pointed tips, reaching a height of 40–50 cm. A spike-like inflorescence 10–15 cm in diameter grows from the center of the rosette. Small tubular flowers are surrounded by bright bracts of red-purple, dark red, or greenish-brown shades.
The flowering period occurs in summer and autumn, with the bracts retaining their decorative appearance for up to 6 months. The variety is thermophilic and requires protection from direct sunlight and drafts. When the regime of watering into the leaf rosette is followed and humidity is maintained, it shows resistance to fungal infections.
