The Benfica variety is a large-flowered hybrid with wine-red or burgundy-colored flowers. The flower diameter is typically 15 to 20 cm, sometimes reaching 22 cm. The petals are broad and have a dense velvety texture. From 4 to 6 buds are formed on one flower stalk.

The plant reaches a height of 45-60 cm. The flower stalks are strong and capable of supporting the weight of the large inflorescences without lodging. The leaves are dark green, strap-shaped, and basal. The variety is used as an ornamental pot plant and is also suitable for cut flowers.

Flowering occurs 6-8 weeks after planting the bulb. The plant is characterized as low-maintenance, but it is heat-loving and does not tolerate sub-zero temperatures, which is why it is grown primarily indoors.
