Baronesse is a two-row spring hulled barley variety. It is classified as a feed crop intended for forage purposes. The variety has served as base material for the development of a number of other barley varieties.
The plant possesses moderate resistance to stripe rust and displays relative tolerance to saline soils. In comparison with more modern breeding achievements, the variety may be inferior in adaptability to extreme drought conditions and lodging resistance.
The variety is frequently used for research purposes as a standard for comparison when studying physiological plant responses to external stress factors and in entomological experiments.
