The Bistro variety is a winter barley bred based on the genetic combination (Colambo × Astrid) × Angora. It belongs to the two-row barley type (Hordeum vulgare L. convar. distichon (L.) Alef. var. nutans (Rode) Alef.).
In agronomic research, this variety is used for studying disease infection, including loose smut (Ustilago nuda), covered smut (Ustilago hordei), and the fungus Ramularia collo-cygni.
