The Bolton variety is a winter two-row barley for feed purposes. The plants are of medium height and are distinguished by high tillering, as well as good early development vigor. One of the key characteristics is the presence of a strong straw, which provides high resistance to lodging, making the variety suitable for cultivation on heavy soils.
The grain of the variety has a good test weight. In terms of diseases, the plant demonstrates high resistance to brown rust and common strains of barley mosaic viruses (BaMMV and BaYMV strains 1 and 2). Resistance to powdery mildew is rated as intermediate, and to rhynchosporium and net blotch as relatively weak or intermediate.
