The variety is a spring barley, classified as malting. In scientific literature, Imidis is often used in breeding work as a component for the development of new barley genotypes.

Grain quality studies of this variety include an investigation into the dynamics of beta-glucan accumulation during maturation. The variety shows susceptibility to leaf scald caused by Rhynchosporium commune and is also included in studies regarding infection by the fungus Ramularia collo-cygni.
