The variety has a complex pedigree, including multiple crosses of various breeding lines. It was developed at the Plant Breeding Institute in Cambridge and was intended for commercial use as feed barley, as it was inferior in malting characteristics to other well-known varieties of that time.
Morphologically, it is a winter two-row barley. Scientific publications note the variety's resistance to powdery mildew, conferred by the Ml-a(Ar) gene. Currently, the variety remains significant primarily as an object for genetic research and an element of historical collections.
