The variety was obtained by crossing the winter barley Pioneer and the spring variety Proctor. It belongs to two-row winter types. In the late 1980s, the variety was removed from the official NIAB list due to issues with genetic purity, however, its cultivation currently continues under strict control to preserve authentic properties.
The purpose of the variety is exclusively malting. It is characterized by low protein content, high extractability and enzymatic activity. In brewing, it is valued for its ability to impart a rich malty taste to the beverage with characteristic biscuit and creamy notes.
