The variety belongs to the type Hordeum vulgare L. ssp. distichum var. nutans and possesses morphological characteristics typical for malting barley, including a long, lax ear. In breeding practice, this variety has been used as a parental component for creating new varieties.

In comparative trials, Novosadski 294 demonstrated moderate grain beta-glucan content. The variety is characterized by susceptibility to stem rust (Puccinia graminis tritici) and powdery mildew (Erysiphe graminis hordei).
