The plant forms a dense, rounded shrub 0.8–1.2 m in height and width with broad, oval, deep green leaves. Inflorescences are large and spherical in shape. During flowering, the color changes from greenish shades with pink, purple, or blue spots to lime-green with pink edges or deep red color.

Flowering begins in May–July and continues until frost. The stems are distinguished by their strength and hold the heavy inflorescences without support. The plant prefers well-moistened, drained soils and partial shade. Frost resistance corresponds to USDA zones 5–9; in severe winters, protection is required, as buds are formed on the previous year's shoots.
