The Papagei variety is a compact shrub reaching a height of 1.0–1.5 m with a crown width of 1.2–1.5 m. The inflorescences have a flat shape: fertile flowers are located in the center and are colored bluish, while large sterile flowers on the edges have a violet-purple-pink hue.

The plant is intended for cultivation in gardens as a solitary plant, in borders or containers. The variety is considered moderately frost-resistant and requires planting in locations protected from the wind. A tendency for confusion with other hydrangea varieties is noted, and genetic studies indicate heterogeneity in the pedigree of specimens sold under this name.
