The Anthos variety is a form of Hypericum perforatum, actively used as a model object in laboratory and biotechnological research, in particular for studying the synthesis of serotonin and melatonin. The plant is cultivated as raw material for pharmaceutical purposes.
In comparative studies of German populations, the variety showed a relatively low hypericin content, amounting to about 0.09%. This variety was also involved in studies on resistance to diseases causing plant wilting.
