Variety description

10 August 2026

The variety «Kyuikukan 1 gou» (also known as «Kyuikukan 1» or «Suntory Black Tone») was bred as an ornamental plant. It is characterized by trailing stems and heart-shaped leaves of a dark olive color with a pronounced dark purple, almost black, hue.

The plant is not intended for industrial tuber production, therefore standard agricultural performance indicators for it have not been determined. The variety serves as a parental form in the breeding of other ornamental cultivars and is also studied in scientific publications for its leaf content of polyphenols and antioxidants.
