The Redval variety was developed by specialists at the Research Station for Fruit Growing in Vâlcea (SCDP Vâlcea), Romania. It is included in the walnut breeding and genetic resource study program and is considered a promising option for organic farming.

During studies conducted in the Northern Oltenia region, the variety's yield reached 2.54 t/ha. The fruits are characterized by medium to large size. The variety is being monitored for resistance to major diseases, including Xanthomonas bacterial blight.
