The variety belongs to the butterhead lettuce group of the Iceberg type and is an ancient autochthonous variety from the vicinity of Ljubljana. In modern classification, it is considered an umbrella variety, including several derivative open-pollinated lines.
The plant forms large or medium-sized dense heads 20–30 cm in height and 30–40 cm in width. The leaves are yellow-green in color, often with a reddish border along the edges. The leaf blade is crisp and succulent.
The variety is mid-late, distinguished by relative cold hardiness and late bolting. Resistance to downy mildew is indicated, although the degree of resistance may vary depending on the specific line.
