The variety belongs to the Bibb-Romaine type, combining a buttery leaf texture with the head shape characteristic of Romaine. The period from sowing to market maturity is 55–60 days. The formed head reaches a height of about 20 cm and has dark green, crisp leaves.
The plant possesses high adaptability, is resistant to light frosts and heat, as well as to some races of downy mildew. The upright head shape ensures good aeration, which reduces the risk of rot. The variety is suitable for dense planting and cultivation in the open field or unheated greenhouses.
In European regions, the variety is known under the synonyms Craquerelle du Midi and Craquante d'Avignon.
