The variety is characterized by rapid establishment within 5–10 days and is primarily intended for overseeding on turf surfaces, including fields with warm-season grasses. Unlike typical Italian ryegrass varieties, Breakout possesses a dark green color and a finer leaf blade, with a texture similar to perennial ryegrass.

The plant forms a dense stand that maintains its density under low mowing. The variety combines the aesthetic qualities of perennial ryegrass with the transition ease and low maintenance requirements typical of Italian ryegrass. Primary applications include the creation of temporary turf covers and use in mixtures for sports and recreational facilities.
