The variety Passat belongs to the category of Westerwolds ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum var. westerwoldicum), which is an annual subspecies of Italian ryegrass. The variety is tetraploid and does not require a vernalization period to transition to flowering.

The primary purpose of the crop is for use as forage grass. Due to the high rate of development, the variety is suitable for obtaining large volumes of green mass, silage, or for use as an intermediate crop to cover forage periods.
