The variety was obtained by collecting and selecting local ecotypes from British pastures followed by open pollination. It is characterized as early-flowering and possesses high leafiness. The plant demonstrates high productivity in intensive management systems and has a relative capacity for regrowth.
The variety is considered suitable for short-term pastures lasting up to three years and is less effective for long-term complex mixtures. It is characterized by heterogeneity and high susceptibility to a number of aphid-transmitted viral diseases. In the history of grass breeding, the variety was long used as a control sample in agronomic trials.
