The variety possesses good resistance and winter hardiness, while being characterized by late heading. In terms of yield, the variety is assessed as moderate. Regarding resistance to rust, data in literature varies, indicating susceptibility ranging from moderate to quite strong.

In agriculture, the variety was used as a forage crop and was also included in commercial grass mixtures. At present, Barmaco is rarely found in current registers, as it has been displaced by newer generation varieties with different morphological traits.
