The variety is a tetraploid obtained by crossing the Malone and Dunluce varieties. It belongs to the intermediate group, with the heading date in England and Wales falling between May 18–20.
It is characterized by high yield, especially in the first silage cut, and moderate dry matter digestibility. The variety shows good persistence and winter hardiness, and is reliable in regions with low crown rust pressure. A combination of high growth in spring and autumn is noted.
