Variety Iljo is of Belgian breeding and is a loose-bunch perennial grass. In official European classifications, the variety is listed as diploid (2n).
The plant is characterized as short-growing. In comparative field trials, the variety showed the maximum crude protein content (18.8%) among the tested samples, as well as a high content of photosynthetic pigments. When studying the stand parameters, minimal soil cover was noted.
The variety is intended for use as a forage crop in pastures and hayfields. In a number of official EU catalogs, the variety is marked as excluded from the lists of those approved for use.
