The variety is a low-growing tetraploid plant that forms loose sods. It belongs to the mid-early group and possesses winter hardiness, as well as tolerance to drought conditions, although it may show sensitivity to extreme weather factors.

The Maja ryegrass is characterized by high nutritional value and good palatability for livestock. The variety is of the pasture-mowing type, regrows quickly after mowing, and is resistant to mechanical damage from trampling by livestock, which allows for its use in meadow and pasture mixtures.
