The Tarpan variety is tetraploid (2n=28) and was bred at the breeding station in Hladké Životice. At the time of its creation, it was considered a breeding achievement aimed at combining high green mass productivity and seed yield.

Given the time of its emergence, the variety is not considered a modern commercial sample for intensive production. Detailed data on current morphological characteristics, such as height or resistance to specific diseases, are absent in open sources.
