The Telstar variety is a diploid (2n) plant. It is distinguished by its longevity, good winter hardiness, and ability to recover quickly from damage.

The plant is intended for the establishment of permanent pastures and meadows, tolerating intensive use well, including animal trampling and regular mowing. The variety is used in grass mixtures as a forage crop.
