The variety is tetraploid (4n) and belongs to the mid-maturing group (intermedia). The plant does not contain fungal endophytes. In state trials, the variety is often used as a reference sample when evaluating the productivity of other ryegrass varieties.
The Bahial variety of ryegrass is used as a forage crop for establishing pastures and hayfields. It provides stand longevity of 3 to 5 years and is suitable for cultivation in mixtures with legumes, including white clover and red clover.
