The variety is tetraploid and its growth habit is closer to Italian ryegrass than to perennial ryegrass. It has a very low tendency to form ears in the year of sowing.
The plant shows high dry matter yield in the first cut; productivity is rated as high for spring sowing and medium to high for autumn sowing. The variety is distinguished by good overwintering and resistance to rust.
Melauris is intended for use over 2–3 years, primarily for mowing. It can be used in mixtures, particularly with red clover.
